The red fox (Vulpes vulpes) is a very common mammal across the United States, being found in all of the lower 48 states. They are very adaptable animals and are quite willing to establish themselves in suburban, and even urban, settings to escape the habitat destruction so many animals have to face as humans expand out from cities into rural areas.
Although very rare in Delaware, they are seen from time to time. The Coyote (Canis latrans) is another one of those very adaptable mammals, that when pushed out of native habitats because of human intrusion, will readily settle into suburban and urban areas and make a home in our backyards and shopping centers.
