Eastern Striped Skunk

You may be afraid of the Eastern Striped Skunk (Mephitis Mephitis), and you should be as the gland under their tail can produce an atrociously obnoxious stench that clings to everything it touches, can be difficult to clean off, and lasts for day. However, for a skunk to use this defense, it needs to feel more afraid of you than you are of it, and a skunk will only spray a perceived threat if it feels it absolutely necessary. One comforting thought however, is the fact that a skunk can only spray if it can fully lift its tail, so if you've caught one in a trap, you are usually safe from being sprayed, especially if you treat them delicately and don't make any sudden movements that would scare them.
